De Quervains is a stenosing tenosynovitis of the thumb abductors at the radiostyloid process. Many modalities are used for its management among which ultrasound and phonophoresis are most commonly used by the physiotherapists. This study consisted of thirty patients of both sexes. Pain and grip strength were measured before applying US (group A) and PH (group B). After the treatment given for 3 days a week/3 weeks the pain and grip strength were measured again.
Data analysis was done using paired and Unpaired t- test which showed highly significant improvement in pain and grip strength in both US and PH group. (p< 0.0001). Also significant difference was found in pain between both group A and group B (p < 0.01) but no significant difference was found in grip strength (p< 0.1)
It is concluded that ultrasound and phonophoresis with diclofenac gel has significant effect on pain and grip strength in De Quervain's diseases. Also pain is significantly reduced in PH group than US group.
