A Study on the effectiveness of Plyometric -Weight Training on Anaerobic Power and Muscular Strength in Athletes
Abstract
Purpose: In events like jumping, throwing, track and field and other activities, the athlete must be able to use strength as quickly and forcefully as possible. This study is aimed to prove the effectiveness of plyometric-weight training on anaerobic power and muscular strength in young male athletes.
Outcome measures: Tools used are vertical jump height, 50 yard dashand 1 RM squat.
Methodology: 40 athletes are divided into two groups using simple random sampling technique namely the plyometric-weight training group (Experimental group, n=20) and plyometric group (Control group, n=20). Both groups are trained for six weeks, 2 days per week.Experimental group performs plyometric drills and weight training protocol.Control group performs only plyometric drills. All training sessions are supervised.
Statistical analysis: The data are analyzed using unpaired t-test.
Results: The results showed that the experimental group who underwent plyometric-weight training reported a higher level of improvement on anaerobic power and muscular strength than control group. (p value < 0.05).
