Case Report- Physical Exercises in Interstitial Lung Disease with Complications

Abstract

Interstitial Lung Disease is the group of disorders, responsible for muscular dysfunction and chronic deconditioning. The patient was a 63-year-old Muslim Female, house wife, diagnosed with Interstitial Lung disease in 2007 with the help of lung radiograph and pulmonary function test by a physician. She had complained of chronic dry cough, usually worsens with minimal house hold work. She was on long term oxygen therapy since 2007. We had taken 6 minute walk test, Borg's score, Respiratory rate and saturation of oxygen as variable to measure response during exercise training. Patient had undergone 24 sessions of exercise training, 12 sessions with strength training and remaining with aerobic and strength training. During strength training patient responded well with exercises, but during aerobic and strength training patient deteriorated due to rapid and shallow breathing. The strength training helps in improving patient's condition irrespective of severity and should be indicated to these patients.
