Abstract

Callus cultures were initiated from bulb-scales and flower buds of Crinum asiaticum on MS medium. Bulb- scales calli did not show organogenetic responses. Somatic embryogenesis was achieved from compact flower bud calli. Beside 2, 4- D, NAA and BAP fortified media were equally found effective in inducing regular somatic embryo. Histological and scanning electron microscopic studies were presented for somatic embryogenesis. Callus tissue exhibited embryogenic potential for more than one year. The regenerated plant had normal chromosome number (3n=33).
