Two cultivars of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) CO-1 and ADT-1 were germinated under different NaCl salinity. Salinity increased the protease activity, amino acids and proline accumulation. Salinity decreased the utilization of reserve protein of the cotyledons. The accumulation of amino acids and proline may serve as a osmaticum to protect the cell organelles and enzymes under saline condition. Within the two varieties soybean CO-1 seems to be slightly salinity tolerant than ADT-1.
