Six rice genotypes vk., Mahsuri, Pankaj, IET 6666, TTB 101-14, Biraj and Khorma were grown in sand in a green house with three levels of iron in nutrient solutions vk, control (2 ppm Fe), 100 and 200 ppm Fe. Leaf yellowing was observed in the seedlings when grown at higher iron concentration in the medium. Pankaj and TTB 101-14 maintained higher leaf chlorophyll along with higher total soluble protein and nitrate reductase activity in the leaves at 100 and 200 ppm Fe. Higher iron concentration in the medium exerted an inhibiting effect on the contents of marco and micro nutrients in different genotypes. However Pankaj and TTB 101–114 had relatively higher N, K. Mn and Zn content in the shoot when grown at higher Fe level. Accumulation of Fe in the shoot of these two varieties was less at 100 and 200 ppm iron as compared to other Pankaj and TTB 101-14 are suitable for growing under higher toxic concentration of iron.
