Abstract

The defoliation of leaves on different order of branches exhibited adverse effects on growth, yield and yield contributing characters. Total leaves contributed about 46 per cent as against 39, 10 and 26 per cent contribution made by leaves in main shoot, primary branches, and secondary branches, respectively. Relatively greater proportion (about 54 per cent) of photosynthates were contributed by the green surface of tender shoot inflorescence and pod wall.
