Groundnut pods stored in storage containers containing anhydrous calcium chloride (CaCl2) and silica gel gave higher seed viability (above 50%) after 12 months of storage and seeds stored in air tight storage without any chemical (closed tin and plastic silo) maintained above 50% viability upto 10 months of storage, while those stored in gunny bag and earthen pot failed to germinate after this period. Retention of high seed viability in storage with CaCl2 or silica gel could be attributed to low moisture percentage of seeds during storage. The higher viability of seeds stored in polythene lined gunny bag containing CaCl2 had higher field emergency accumulation of lower total soluble sugars, lower fungal infestation and higher oil content and higher pod yield in groundnut.
