Chickpea cv. ICCV 88102 plants were exposed to salinity treatment at two growth stages viz. at sowing (stage I) and 65 days after sowing (stage II) prior ot florogenesis. Lower salinity when applied at stage I increased the protein content marginally whereas higher salinity decreased it substantially, irrespective of the stage of its application. On the other hand, seeds of plants receiving salinity treatment at stage II possessed relatively more proteins than those receiving treatment at stage I. Salinity did not favour the accumulation of free amino acids including proline.
