Seasonal variation in ascorbic acid content of promising mulberry genotypes

Abstract

Ten promising genotypes of mulberry (Morus sp.) viz., S-34, S-l 3, S-54, RFS-135, S-1, Tr-10, S-799, S-36, K2 and Mysore local were studied for ascorbic acid content in different seasons since it acts, both, as a phagostimulant and a nutrient in the silkworm, Bombyx mori L. Higher ascorbic acid content was recorded during the month Nov-Jan. Among all the genotypes, S-13 was found best, having highest ascorbic acid content (3.321 mg/g), followed by genotype S- 799 (3.321 mg/g).
