Abstract

Water samples were collected from the aquatic habitats of Dalhousie and Chamba districts of Himachal Pradesh in North India. Isolation and purification of microalgal strains was carried out by using Bold Basal medium. Ten pure microalgal isolates were identified and studied for growth parameters like dry weight, chlorophyll and total soluble proteins and total lipids. It was found that Chlamydomonas sp. showed lowest dry weight while highest dry weight was observed in Scenedemus sp. Chlorophyll content was highest in Scenedemus sp. and lowest in Ulothrix sp. Total soluble proteins were maximum in Chlorococcum sp. and minimum in Ulothrix sp. Lipid content evaluated at 28th day of incubation and were recorded to be highest in Chlorella sp. and lowest in Ulothrix sp.
