Effects of Water Stress Treatments on Growth Parameters and Nitrogenase Activity in Acacia Nilotica
Abstract
In Acacia nilotica, the response of four different watering schedules i,e, daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly was studied in pots. Marked reduction in plant height, root length, basal diameter, fresh and dry weights of leaf, stem, root and nodules as well as nitrogenase (acetylene-ethylene reduction) activity was observed with the increase in time schedule of watering treatments. Nodule formation was completely inhibited in the monthly watering treatments. Nodule biomass and nitrogenase activity was severly influenced with increasing water stress treatments.
