Lignified Salix babylonica L. stem cuttings planted inside mist chamber, started sprouting by 5th day, leaves enlarged rapidly upto 14 day, ceased to grow by 30th day and became visually senescent by 90th day. Indole compounds level fluctuated in different leaf growth stages and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) could be detected in leaf growth initiation and enlarging leaf stage. Total phenols were found to be maximum in phenolic elute of senescent leaf> mature leaf> enlarging leaf. After acid hydrolysis and rechromatography of phenolic elute, p-coumaric acid and caffeic acid were estimated colorimetrically and flavanol content were maximum in senescent leaf.
