Dry Matter Accumulation, Nitrogen Uptake and Their Partitioning Pattern in Virginia Groundnut (Arachis Hypogaea L.)

Abstract

Genotypic differences with respect to total dry matter, N uptake and their partitioning into different plant parts of groundnut are reported. The genotype M 13 accumulated significantly higher dry matter and nitrogen compared to other genotypes. Among the different plant parts, the highest per cent of dry matter and N were accumulated in pods (kernel + shell) and negligible amount of dry matter and N were partitioned into the root. The genotypes TMV 10 and R 33-1 showed higher dry matter accumulation in pods and high harvest index (HI). GG 11, GAUG 10 and R 33-1 showed greater percentage of N translocation to pods, and high nitrogen harvest index (NH1). The genotype R 33-1 which had both high HI and NHI was found to be most efficient in this study.
