Abstract

Application of dinitroaniline herbicides namely Fluchloralin and Butachlor at different concentrations to cotton seedlings, (Gossypium hirsutum Linn.,) significantly reduced the percentage of germination, lateral root formation, cotyledonary area, dry matter, protein content and nitrate reductase activity (NRA). Chlorophyll, carotenoid and anthocyanin pigments increased with increasing concentrations of herbicides. A non-linear correlation was found between leaf soluble protein, pigment content and NR activity in both herbicides treatments.
