Abstract

Effects of sea water dilutions on three varieties of cotton viz., IAN/579/327/2749 (VI), IAN/579/188 (V2) and SRT-3087 (V3) were studied on sandy substrate. Abrupt imposition of salinity decreased the growth of plants which were exhibited by reduction in stalk length and number of branches. The per plant yield and total number of flowers were also affected whereas fruits per plant were not altered significantly by salinity. The physical properties of cotton lint in all the three varieties did not markedly change by salinity stress. The mineral accumulation in the leaves and salinization in the different depths of soil caused due to sea water application are discussed.
