Photosensitivity at varietal level in linseed
Abstract
Four varieties of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) were exposed to long, short and natural day lengths to investigate their differential photosensitivity at varietal level. Study of the photosensitivity index showed that varieties differed significantly in their photoperiodic response. It was noted that photosensitivity at varietal level was not limited to flowering alone but characters such as flower bud, capsule and seed number varied differentially. This investigation pointed out that for genetic manipulations, knowledge of photosensitivity at varietal level is of significance for crop improvement programme.
