Abstract

Relative susceptibility of eight different maize inbred lines to magnesium deficiency in sand culture was studied. The different maize varieties differed in their susceptibility and development of visual pathological effects of magnesium deficiency. Neither leaf magnesium nor initiation and severity of visual pathological effects of magnesium deficiency were found related to depression in dry matter production of different maize varieties due to magnesium deficiency. On the basis of overall performance variety CL was found to be the most resistant and varieties PY and AL highly susceptible to magnesium deficiency disorder.
