Analysis of growth and yield of 3 mung bean cultivars, S9, PS-16 and Pusa Baisakhi indicated that more seed yield of a summer season crop was associated with high NAR permitting higher grain growth rates. Changes in NAR varied widely in different seasons at different times and were brought about through plastic changes in the leaves which in turn were induced by the light enviroment of the growth season. The three cultivars exhibited various degrees of indeterminate growth habit. S9 continued to partition a major share of its assimilates for stem and leaf growth and attained significantly more LAI and TDM yet it failed to overtake in seed yield and lagged behind during cloudy weather of Kharif 1975.
