Abstract

Eleven newly introduced varieties of sugarbeet-Bush-E, ERO-type E, Resista-poly, Ramons-Kaya, Triplex, K.W.S.-E, K.W.S. Polybeta. K.W.S. Gigapoly, K.W.S. Megnapoly, K.W.S. Cercapoly and K. W. S. Sacchapoly-were tested to salinity tolerance in pot-soil culture by the addition of chloride and sulfate salts of sodium, calcium and magnesium at four graded levels (equivalent to E. Ce. 1.7, 6.0, 10.2 and 13.1 m mhos/cm at 25°C). The varieties K.W.S.-E, K. W. S. Cercapoly and ERO-type E were found to be susceptible and varieties K.W.S. Megnapoly, RamonsKaya and Resistopoly tolerant to salinity during germination and early stages of growth.
