Eight F1 hybrids of pearlmillet were tested at four soil salinity levels. At ECe 20 none of the hybrids could survive while, at ECe 15 and ECe 10 there was a severe to moderate decline in germination, plant survival, 1000-grain weight, ear density and grain yield. As compared to normal soil, grain yield increased slightly at ECe 5. Ear length was not affected by salinity. Heading was delayed by 3-4 days at ECe 10 and by 5-7 days at ECe 15. The hybrids 23D2 AxD85, 126D2AxJ1270 and 126D2AxJ1399 were ident fled as tolerant to salinity.
