Six brinjal cultivars were assessed for their yield, morphological and physiological characteristics. Length of branches, number of leaves per plant, stomatal density and chlorophyll content of leaves and the rate of dry matter production showed significant and positive correlations with the fruit yield. Therefore the above mentioned characters are considered suitable indices for selecting plant types for higher yields.
