Foliar application of dalapon, 2, 2-dichloropropionic acid at sub-herbicidal concentration on sorghum, var. ‘MSH-33’ (Sorghum bicolor, Moench) plants caused enhancement of gross photosynthetic rate and total chlorophyll content. The increased photosynthetic rate was also associated with the luxuriant growth, increased leaf area, plant height, fresh weight and dry weight ultimately resulted in improved grain yield. The sub-herbicidal concentration of dalapon also induced the earliness in grain filling and harvesting of the crop. The data suggest that dalapon at sub-herbicidal concentration, acts as a growth regulating hormone and can be used to improve yield and earliness in sorghum under field conditions.
