Low light (15–20 klux) was imposed during grain ripening period in four tall indicas and four semi-dwarf rice cultivars to study low light effect on yield and translocation of nitrogen and carbohydrates to panicle. Grain yield was reduced under low light due to low grain number per panicle and grain size. Due to better mobilization capacity the tall indicas particularly the late maturing types recorded higher yield than the semi-dwarfs under low light. The results indicated that greater accumulation of assimilates at flowering would ensure a higher yield level in wet season (kharif) rice crop.
