A field trial, involving, two hybrids was conducted for two seasons to investigate the effect of shading and defoliation on the grain yield and its attributes in bajra (Pennisetum typhoides). It was found that a cut in the photosynthetic surface area either bv shading or defoliation at the time of anthesis causes reduction in grain number per ear, grain size, rate of grain development and the final grain yield almost in proportion to the cut in leaf area.
