Phenylalanine ammonia lyase activity in ground nut cultivar TMV 7 during its growth was influenced by age and nature of the tissue. Dry seeds and young scedlings contained the enzyme but it was absent in young cotyledons. Roots of 10 day old plants displayed the largest amount of enzyme activity which decreased in mature roots. Both in stem and leaf, the enzyme levels fluctuated during growth; maximum activity was present in maturiug tissues (30–70 days) but ia older tissues, the activity was low.
