Sugarcane mosaic virus strain F (SCMV-F) was identified in sugarcane Var. Co.740. The infection lowers chlorophylls, activities of carboxylating enzymes, moisture content, total nitrogen and carbohydrates while polyphenol synthesis is stimulated. Virus infected sugarcane leaves have more Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+ while there is a slight reduction in Fe2+ and P contents.
