Abstract

Considerable variation (18 to 62%) in harvest index (HI) of 3 types of groundnut was recorded. The spreading types had low HI (34 to 45%) while bunch types had high HI (61 to 62%). The HI was negatively correlated with all growth components except seed yield. There was significant negative association of total dry matter and 100 seed weight with HI. The seed yield/plant was significantly highest in spreading types (9.12 to 12.35 g) but its HI was low. The bunch types yielded less (7.59 to 8.62 g) and its HI was high. Greater variation in seed yield was in semispreading types. It is concluded that there is no positive influence of HI on sink capacity in groundnut.
