Thiabendazole, a systemic fungicide, at 0.5 mM concentration inhibited mitochondrial succinate dehydrogenase activity by 20 to 60% in Cicer arietinum, Vitis vinifera, Lycopersicon esculentum and Phaseolus vulgaris. The mitochondrial succi-noxidase and phosphorylating capacity were inhibited by the compound only in Phaseolus mdiatus. The compound inhibited mitochondrial NADH-Cytoehrome C reductase of Cicer arietinum to an extent of 50%. The compound, however, had no effect on mitochondrial succinate-cytochrome C reductase, malate dehydrogenase, AT-Pase, L-aspartate: 2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase and cytoplasmic phosphorylase, peroxidase, catalase and polyphenol oxidase.
