Contribution of Bracts in Boll Development of Gossypium Hirsutum and Gossypium Arboreum Cottons
Abstract
An experiment to study the contribution of bracts in boll develoment of G. hirs-utum and G. arboreum cottons was conducted at cotton research scheme, MAU, Parbhani, during 1977–78. The boll weight was significantly reduced due to removal of bracts in hirsutum as well as arboreum cottons. The reduction was more in hirsuturo as compared to arboreum cotton. The percentage contribution of bracts up to ten days after formation of flower was 12. 66, 10. 26, 6. 41, 5. 55% for H - 4, MCU - 5 (hirsutum), CJ-73, AKH-4 (arboreum) respectively. The percent cotribution was more at square and flower stages as compared to ten days after formation of flower.
