Auxin-rifampicin Interaction in Adventitious Root Formation on Hypocotyl Cuttings of Phaseows mungo

Abstract

Whereas IAA did not affect, IBA and NAA increased root differentiation on hypocotyl cuttings of Phaseotus mungo. Rifampicin did not affect number of roots but decreased the root length. When used in combination, auxins and rifampicin show a strong interaction. Thus, when used with IAA, rifampicin produced a strong synergistic effect on root differentiation at higher concentration whereas with IBA and NAA, it caused partial reversal of auxin-promoted differentiation of roots. However, in all cases rifampicin inhibited root length.

The total protein and RNA content remained at a higher level only in IAA-treated hypocotyls. Rifampicin decreased the content of both the metabolites, which was only partially reversed by simultaneous application of auxins.
