In dormant peach seeds, the gibberellin-like substances were found present only in basic forms. On giving stratification treatment at low temperatures (7 and 10°C) to the dormant peach seed, the level of basic type gibberellins declined and acidic type gibberellins increased. However, during stratification at high temperature (24°C), no appreciable change in the gibberellin-like substances was observed. But higher temperature (24°C) treatment to the stratified seed caused decline in the quantity of acidic type gibberellins and an increase in the quantity of basic type gibberellins. Release of seed dormancy was dependent on the increase in the quantity of acidic type gibberellins. The gibberellin-like substances activity in the chromatograms loaded with basic fractions was located at Rfs 0.2, 0.7 and 0.9 and in the chromatograms loaded with acidic fractions was at Rf 0.4–0.6.
