Effect of Moisture Stress on Yield, Nutrient Uptake and Nutrient Movement into Grain in nine Varieties of Wheat

Abstract

The effect of moisture stress at different stages of crop growth on yield, nutrient uptake and nutrient movement to grain was studied with nine varieties of wheat, Tricticum durum (1), Triticale (1), Triticum aestivum (7) in pot culture using Delhi alluvium. The results indicated that yield was depressed in the order:

Combined stress at early and late stages > Late stage >Early stage

The nutrient uptake was affected by moisture stress as P > N ≥ Cu > Mn > Zn > Fe > K

With moisture stress, higher concentration of N, P, K, Fe and Zn were observed in grain. Considering total uptake and distribution, it was noted that with stress must nutrients accumulated in the straw, it was more so in triticale.
