Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the calcium-sodium interaction in relation to the degree of hydration in groundnut with four levels of calcium (0, 40, 80 and 160 kg/ha) as gypsum and five levels of sodium (0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 kg/ha) as sodium chloride. The experiment was carried out during kharif season of 1975 at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Sodium caused wide variation in the moisture status of leaf in the early development phase. In the later phase calcium at 80 kg/ha and 160 kg/ha restrained the variation in leaf hydration due to sodium. Among the levels of calcium tried, the 80 kg/ha level produced minimum variation in degree of hydration between leaf and pod and also registered a higher yield per plant.
