Environmental effects on six characteristics of Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) were studied at constant soil moisture potential. Kalanchoe tubiflora when frown in environments inducing CAM had more stomata, a higher K/Ca ratio, assimi-lated more CO2 per given leaf area and more total growth than plants grown in an environment inducing out of CAM plants. The plants grown out of CAM with lower stomatal density utilized less water per gram dry weight.
