UV Photoprotection with Para-Aminobenzoic Acid in Chroococcus Minutvs
Abstract
Photoprotecting action of para-aminobcnzoic acid is studied in Chroococcus minutus irradiated with UV dose of 16,800 ergs. mm−2. The dose rate is 18.67 ergs. mm−2, sec−1. The quality and quantity of aminoacids are changed. The high content of sulphydryl groups and ascorbic acid and the increased peroxidase activity suggest that a sulphydryl photoprotection and a radical scavenging mechanism are involved in the para-aminobenzoic acid-photoprotection.
