RNA and Protein Syntheses in Barley Seeds Soaked in Water (H₂O) and Heavy Water (D₂O)

Summary D₂O affected precursor incorporation into macromolecu les more adversely than their uptake. While leucine uptake was more significantly reduced than uridine uptake, synthesis of both protein and RNA were inhibited almost to the same extent in the presence of D₂O. D₂O-induced slow germination, is attributed to its interference with RNA and protein syntheses.
