Summary D2O affected precursor incorporation into macromolecu les more adversely than their uptake. While leucine uptake was more significantly reduced than uridine uptake, synthesis of both protein and RNA were inhibited almost to the same extent in the presence of D2O. D2O-induced slow germination, is attributed to its interference with RNA and protein syntheses.
