Summary Gibberellic acid (GA) increased elongation of hypocotyls, epicotyls, as well as leaf petioles in apical fragments of seedlings of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea). Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), which yielded similar significant influence only in case of epicotyl elongation, had less pronounced effect than that of GA. There was no synergism between the effects of the two growth hormones, except in respect of epicotyl elongation.
So far as rooting is concerned, GA was inhibitory for both their formation as well as elongation. IAA had little influence on enhancing formation of roots, while its higher dose reduced their elongation. IAA, particularly the higher dose, appeared to have a slight moderating influence on the effects of 40 ppm GA on root formation.
