Yield analysis of hybrid bajra-1 and its parents, viz., Bil-3B (male) and Tift-23B (female) was undertaken in rainfed and irrigated field conditions. The order of grain yields and harvest index of the varieties varied as Hb-1> Bil-3B>Tirt-23B, both under rainfed and irrigated conditions. The straw yield of Hb-1 did not show any significant difference than either parent in both the conditions. The grain weight per main shoot increased more rapidly after anthesis in Hb-1 than in either parent and that the final grain weight was also highest in Hb-1. Dry weight of the stem does not suggest any significant contribution of reserves in the stem for grain filling. The leaf area duration during grain filling was higher in the hybrid which suggests an association of leaf area duration with grain yield.
