Abstract

Higher magnitude of rooting in hypocotyl cuttings of Phaseolus mungo with excised shoot apex and leaves cultured in IAA+Sucrose as compared to that in each alone, showed decrease in DNA, RNA, protein and amino acids contents till 14 h, but the synthesis of both nucleic acids and protein was more apparent under similar conditions during the period of 14–20 h. The cuttings cultured in water (control) and IAA (1 μg/ml) showed high level of protein content but scanty rooting. The amino acid content was high initially but decreased thereafter and was more pronounced in IAA + Sucrose treatment at 24–29 h.
