Contribution of pod-wall in grain development of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) as influenced by foliar application of growth regulators and urea

Abstract

Field studies were conducted at Central Campus, MPAU, Rahuri to study the effect of foliar application of growth regulators (Atrataf, 2, 4-D, NAA and CCC) and urea, in two concentrations, at flowering stage on chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) cv. Chafa, in relation to development of pods and grains and the contribution of pod-wall. It was observed that the pod-wall developed first and grain development started after 7th day of anthesis. The wall contributed for grain development during the later grain growth period. The foliar spray of 50 and 25 ppm NAA. 10 ppm Atrataf and 500 ppm CCC increased the grain and pod weight significantly and the differences were significant from the beginning. The foliar spray of Atrataf and 2, 4-D increased the mobilization of pod-wall reserve for grain filling.
