Resorcinol, β-naphthol, phloroglucinol and indole acetic acid (IAA) promote plumule growth at 10 and 100 mg/l and radicle growth at 10 mg/l concentration in Cicer atietinum L. Resorcinol and phloroglucinol at 10 and 100 mg/l increase while IAA at all used concentrations retard lateral root development. 500 mg/l of all used chemicals retard plumule and radicle growth and lateral root development. Ten and 100 mg/l of IAA synergise the action of used low concentrations of phenols, while the same antagonise its higher concentrations for plumule growth. For radicle growth, higher concentrations of both are synergistic.
