Abstract

Significantly high positive relationship between yield and harvest index (r=0.92) or translocation efficiency (r=0.98), evidently suggests that in varieties where yield of grains was higher, partitioning of dry matter was relatively more in favour or grains. It is surmised that the rice plant is unable to accumulate enough carbohydrates through current photosynthesis under waterlogged condition and hence, the yield of rice varieties under such a situation is largely determined by the mobility of reserve carbohydrates to the developing spikelets.
