Partitioning of dry matter in sugarcane, a key factor in productivity, was influenced by growth, genotype (within Saccharum hybrids) and different crop stands viz. autumn and spring planted cane and ratoons. Partitioning of assimilates to mother- shoot at initial stages of growth and translocation of 14C- labelled assimilates from mother- shoot to tillers indicated that for their initial growth and development, tillers depended upon mother- shoot.
