The growth of seedlings developed from the seedi subjected to chemical scarification and hot water treatments was retarded in Tephrosia purpurea. In Abrus precatorius water soaking treatment enhanced the seedling growth in general. In general, auxin and ethephon inhibited the seedling growth while gibberellin promoted the same. The seedling vigour of the seedlings developed from seeds treated with chemical scarification, water soaking and hot water and growth substances was variably effected in both the species. Auxin, morphacttn and ethephon reduced the seedling vigour in Tephrosia purpurea, where gibberellin promoted this parameter of seedling growth. However, in Abrus precatorius auxin and morphactin proved to be inhibitory but gibberellin and ethephon have promoted the seedling vigour.
