Wheat variety Sonalifca, was grown in pots containing farmyard manure in winter season of 1982–83. Supply of urea (400 mg day−1 pot−1) during the period, commencing 14 days before anthesia to some days after anthesis, increased yield of grains through the survival of more number of tillers and florets. It also increased the dry weight, nitrogen and potassium contents of the shoot and the soluble carbohydrates and free amino acid concentration of the inflorescence on the mainshoot.
