Wheat plants, grown under no zinc and 0.05 ppm zinc in the nutrition medium, showed lower level of carbonic anhydrase activity as compared to the normal ones. Severely zinc-deficient plants when supplied with zinc showed several-fold increase in the activity of this enzyme and was found to be parallel to the accumulation of 45Zn in the shoot. Wheat carbonic anhydrase showed only one band of isozyme in poly aery lam ide gel which also, corresponded with the high activity of 45Z+.
