Laboratory and field experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of pre-sowmg hardening of seeds of ragi Co. 7 and Co. 10 with different chemical solutions on germination, growth and yield of seeds. Germination, tillering, plant height, root growth, dry matter production and grain yield were all favourably influenced, but the magnitude of the influence was largely determined by the variety as well as by the composition of the chemical used for hardening the seeds.
