The effects of three levels of phosphate (0, 30 and 60 kg P2O5/ha) and sulphur (0, 12 and 24 kg S/ha) on growth, nodulation and yield of black gram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) C.V. T-9 was studied in vertisol of North Western madhya Pradesh during Kharif 1981 and 1982. pooled analysis of data revealed that phosphate @ 60 kg P2O5 and sulphur @ 24 kg S/ha although signiieantly increased dry matter of shoot, root and root nodules upto 40 days growth, however the grain and straw yields at harvest were increased with the application of phosphate alone @ 30 kg P2O5/ha. Synergistic effect of P and S was observed fa respect of ODW of roots and nodules.
