Abstract

Field experiments with varieties Co 1148, Bo 91, CoS 510, CoS, 767, CoS 770, CoS 802 and CoS 7918 were carried out to study the effects of moisture stress on dry matter production and proline accumulation at pre-elongation stage of sugarcane. Varieties BO 91, CoS 767, Co 1148 and CoS 802 had greater accumulation of proline than varieties CoS 510, CoS 770 and CoS 7918, especially under mositure stress conditions. The former varieties also produced more dry matter than the latter ones which showed more reduction in dry matter under stress conditions.
